The Slovene Mountain Trail, Slovenia

Aka the Slovenska Planinska Pot, this trek covers 310 miles from Maribor to Ankaran on the Adriatic coast.

When?

I am currently planning a 10 day trek to tackle the first 125 miles of the SMT from Maribor to Trzic.

Planning Notes

3.10.26- Update- Planning is mostly done.

• Most huts have been booked. Some hut changes were needed as two I had planned on staying at aren't in operation. This has also changed my itinerary a bit.

  • Still need to book Dom na Urslji Gori & Dom na Smrekovcu.

  • Also had to change reservation of Kokrskem Sedlu to previous night. Waiting for confirmation.

• Need to purchase maps and stamp book in Slovenia because of tariff situation, I can't have the mailed to the USA. Annoying.

• This year I'm attempting to use the "Hiker" App on my phone for GPS routing for the 10 day hike.

• Need to research back up plans in case of closures and bad weather. I'd also like a better sense of the bail out spots (places that have access to cars) just in case.

• I'm assuming weather is similar to Northern Italy, but need to research that a bit more.

Cicerone Guide- The Slovene Mountain Trail -

I tried to purchase the Slovene Mountain Club guide, which I am reading is better, but its impossible to get win the states due to the tariff situation.

HiiKER App-

For the first time I am trying the HiiKER app to plan out my 10 day hike. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's a pretty solid option for the cost.

TripIt App-

Last year I used the TripIt app for the first time and I love it. No tool helps to organize a multi-day trip like this app. It is so easy to make a mistake with a date and it can be challenging to weed through emails to find confirmations. This app allows everything to be organized perfectly.
